DISCLAIMER...do NOT read this if you are not ready to hear the truth about Play Based Coaching. This is not AI generated and solely my own thoughts and writing.
I’ve spent over two decades working with children and young people, starting my early career as a special needs school teacher and later completing a Master’s in Clinical Child Psychology as a mature student. Then I was a reader in Psychiatry at Oxford University and involved in a £24 million research project relating to ACE's (Adverse Childhood Experiences).
Yet NONE of this means a thing when it comes to my Play Based Coaching System® which I designed in 2003.
Since the pandemic, I have been navigating a brand new landscape. One that was non existent but now flooded with mediocre Kids Life Coaches. Multiple companies popping up to offer "accredited training" and making claims they cannot keep and thinking that hiding behind a badge and tick boxes is enough to hold them accountable. I have built a global network of Play Based Coaches based on ethical standards that are self regulated and underpinned by values that put children first.
Yet NONE of this means a thing when it comes to my Play Based Coaching System® which I designed in 2003.
You see before play became a buzzword and mindfulness became a trend, and Kids Life Coaching became a "thing", I was coaching. I knew the evidence yet, I intuitively navigated neuroscience, developmental psychology and the underpinnings of social psychology. If it was a trend I've studied it. Seen it come and go. I have predicted failed projects within education systems and I have navigated wasted funding just because academia says so.
Yet NONE of this means a thing when it comes to my Play Based Coaching System® which I designed in 2003.
I DID NOT study Play Therapy. I DID NOT study as a Life Coach yet I developed a world class Play Based Coaching System® that is adaptable across countries, languages, cultures and religions.
How did I do this?
I truly truly care.
I do NOT tick boxes. I have never followed the easy route to make money. I don't oversell. I just show up as The Secret Parent who is childless not by choice in a world designed for parents by default. I do my best for children I will never meet because.
I truly truly care.
I have been told this is a weakness. Not having children of my own leaves gaps in my knowledge. I haven't listened. I remain sharp and my knowledge is based on what children need and what they want but what they DO NOT get in mainstream gold standard evidence based supposedly well researched methods.
You see research is flawed and humans are ego driven. Just like I am right now singing my own praises for sy own Play Based Coaching System® that has traversed the globe with just me at the helm. Just like the millions of psychologists and play therapists are staying steadfast that their way is the right way.
But is the gold standard researched route the right way?
I have ample evidence of the flaws in current systems, having worked in multiple contexts with people across the globe. This is why I can say this with conviction.
My Play Based Coaching System® is the most unique neuroscience based system that offers a well rounded education in theory and education along with mentorship and personal development.
I developed Play Based Coaching as a framework grounded in developmental neuroscience that translates regulation, co-regulation, and agency into practical, relational strategies.
Here’s what I’ve learned in the two decades I have been doing this work:
Children know what they need. Often, they just don’t communicate it in a language we expect.
Play is powerful. Not play therapy, but a medium for co-regulation, safety, and agency. It’s how learning and growth actually happen when the nervous system is engaged.
Presence matters more than perfection. Young people don’t need jargon or credentials. They need to be felt, understood, and met where they are.
Since 2003, Play Based Coaching has grown beyond its original context and is now used internationally — helping educators, clinicians, and youth workers create environments where young people can thrive.
For me, this work has been about meeting young people in their language, not expecting them to meet ours. Developmental neuroscience shows that regulation comes before reasoning, and Play Based Coaching makes that insight practical.
The takeaway this March: Knowledge should illuminate, care should empower, and systems should widen doors rather than close them. Young people thrive when we align practice with how their brains actually develop and when we remember that curiosity, compassion, and creativity are as essential as any degree or credential.
Thank you for allowing me to share why Play Based Coaching is not a trend. It is not a knee jerk reaction to a world going wrong. It is my carefully formulated system rooted in science, rigour and most importantly, ethics.
Yet NONE of this means a thing when it comes to my Play Based Coaching System® which I designed in 2003.
What truly matters is YOU. Showing up for children and using your strengths and talents to leverage and promote children to do the same! Being a good role model and excelling is not just about my Play Based Coaching System®. It is more than that. It is grounded in faith that collectively we have created a movement that will no longer bow down to the mainstream and hide in the shadows waiting for validation.
We are doing the work and we are measuring results and we are getting it right. The evidence is there. If you know you know! Have a fabulous month of March and remember that your system, your methods, your frameworks mean NOTHING...without integrity, truth and a true calling and purpose for making the world a better place.
