Kids Life Studio® Coach Academy
Having trained and mentored kids life coaches globally, I have noticed something interesting. Many are incredibly talented. The right training in place, the passion, and a genuine desire to make a difference in children's lives. Passion and a deep care for helping young people become more confident, resilient, and emotionally healthy.
Yet many of them struggle to get clients.
At first, they assume the problem is their website, their social media, or their pricing, but after my mentorship, they see a pattern emerge.
The biggest mistake isn't their coaching. It is that they are trying to help everyone.Having done this myself previously and recently almost falling prey to this again...I completely understand why this happens.
Most kids life coaches don't get into this profession because they're interested in marketing. They do it because they love helping children. The idea of narrowing their focus can feel uncomfortable, almost as though they're excluding children who need support.
So they create websites that say things like, "I help children build confidence, improve resilience, manage emotions, develop social skills, overcome anxiety, achieve goals, and reach their full potential."
The problem is that when a parent reads that, they don't necessarily see themselves in it and you aren't solving a problem. Imagine a mother whose ten-year-old daughter has become anxious about going to school. Every morning is a battle. Tears, stomach aches, worries about friendships, worries about lessons, worries about everything.
That parent isn't looking for someone who helps children with "a range of challenges." She's looking for someone who understands school anxiety. She wants to know that you've seen this before. She wants reassurance that you understand what her child is experiencing. The truth is that parents rarely buy coaching. They buy solutions to specific problems.
When your message is broad, it can be difficult for parents to recognise that you're the right person to help them.
I often hear coaches say, "But I can help with lots of different things." Of course they're usually right but at what cost? The issue isn't whether you can help everybody. The issue is whether people can quickly understand what you're known for.
Think about it this way. If someone asked you to recommend a coach for a child struggling with confidence after being bullied, would you refer the coach who helps "all children with all challenges," or the coach who is known for helping children rebuild confidence after difficult social experiences?
Most of us would choose the specialist. Not because the specialist is necessarily a better coach, but because their expertise feels clearer. That's what choosing a niche does, it creates clarity and it allows people to remember you. Most importantly, it gives parents confidence their child is in good hands.
Here is the most important thing. It also makes your marketing easier. Instead of trying to speak to every parent, you can have a meaningful conversation with the parents who need your help the most. The good news is that choosing a niche doesn't mean you're stuck with it forever.
In fact, many successful coaches evolve over time. They start by becoming known for one thing, build a reputation, and then expand their services as their business grows. I know I did that, starting off in 2003 with a niche of ADHD coaching and then transforming into family resilience coaching in 2009 and since 2014, high achieving families interested in peak performance strategies.
If you are still at the beginning of your journey, being known for something is far more powerful than trying to be known for everything. If you're a kids life coach and your business isn't growing as quickly as you'd like, take a look at your message.
Could a parent immediately tell who you help?
Could they recognise their child's struggle in your words?
Or are you trying to speak to everyone?
Sometimes the fastest way to grow isn't learning another coaching technique or posting more on social media. Sometimes it's simply getting clear about who you are here to serve because when parents see that you truly understand their child's challenge, they stop looking for a coach. They start looking for you.
