Why you don’t need to be a celebrity as a Kids Life Coach

Uncategorized Jun 16, 2023

I have been in this game of “marketing” myself as a kids life coach for many years. In 2003, when I started out there wasn't any bench mark....drum roll please....and they're also wasn't....

Any social media!!!

Yet I ran a successful and very full coaching practice for 6 years prior to actually even joining social media!!  And it was easy!! In fact I sometimes wish social media wasn’t such a “distraction” to newbies to kids life coaching!!

When I started using social media in 2009 I didn’t see a difference in my foot traffic….but what I did see is this…

✅Easier brand building
✅Better positioning
✅Greater exposure
✅More influence

So whilst I encourage you to build media presence into your marketing campaigns I want to remind you that it should never be your top priority! Also it shouldn’t be your ONLY priority.

Social media will show case you but it will not guarantee you clients!! End of story!!

Your top priorities for building a successful coaching business are based on two things:

1. Building relationships and getting referrals

2. Building solid client testimonials and a track record of success

A short while ago, I had a great Thinking Thursday session around this with our certified play based coaches and Kids Life Coach Academy students.  We shared great tips and discussed tapping into why you don’t need to be a celebrity to be an influencer!

I myself have been in the news and on radio shows for all the right reasons. I have guested on podcasts and been in magazine articles. Did it build my credibility. Sure! BUT....did this make me a celebrity. No ways (LOL). In my experience, those coaches who leverage the media (social media included) to build their brand and reach are super smart BUT when they lose their way, it never looks pretty.

I have worked with hundreds of coaches from around the world and those who are consumed by ego inevitably show up that way in their interviews and this is a deal breaker for gaining potential clients.

We do this work because we truly care about children as change makers. Once upon a time, I too was ego driven and it felt sooooo good to be in the limelight - especially when I had worked so hard to make a name for myself.

Yet...I realised very quickly that telling my real story and showing up as authentic and perfectly imperfect, made more of an impact than being glossy and shiny.

You don't need to be a celebrity as a Kids Life Coach, but perhaps you can become one organically! So stop trying so hard to gain traction online and let it happen on the ground in your community by building real relationships I na world where this is sorely lacking!

As you leverage your skills and become more experienced and gain testimonials, your traction will grow so don't go hunting for it. Let it find you! To me, that is the right way!

So on that note...I'm off to post this new blog online so that I can keep my media presence going!

Sending love and zeal your way,

Zelna
