How to setup a Kids Life Coaching practice without social media

This image gives me perspective, because recently I have been struggling with navigating a constantly new wave of social media trends.  I found myself questioning what I know and what I need to know to better serve my clients both online and offline.

 

So,  let me re-introduce myself since you may not know me before we met here on social media....

 

When I started my business in 2003 I left the classroom with zero administrative and marketing skills on how to setup, manage and run my own organisation supporting family wellbeing in my local community in Durban, South Africa!

 

Boy did I make mistakes!! Cringe worthy mistakes! The rookie kind that now make me realise just how little I knew! (Full disclaimer: I’m still making a few of these as I navigate the constantly turning tide of the online world!)

 

Yet it’s those very mistakes in my early business setup that now position me perfectly to support professionals around the world to launch their own income earning kids life coaching prqctices.

I have supported children’s change makers in 45 countries so far and counting.

 

When I look back I also did lots of things right as a new solo entrepreneur over two decades ago…and as a consequence I built up a thriving practice within 2 years with NO social media by:

 

writing a regular monthly article in a popular and widely circulated parenting magazine,

 

offering to speak for free in schools, corporates and community organisations,

 

attending one in person networking event per week and not selling but actually building relationships many of which are still intact 20 years later,

 

inviting fellow service providers for a no frills no expectations coffee chat just to get to know each other informally,

 

obtaining corporate sponsorship to support economically disadvantaged children through my coaching programme with scholarships,

 

volunteering my time at community events and in a local children’s place of safety.

 

All of this consistent offline action catapulted my career into the media and I got numerous citations in major magazines and newspapers, television and radio as an expert.

 

Again….all of this with NO social media.

 

Yet I believe wholeheartedly in the power of the online world and how it can be a force for good and a way to challenge injustices, educate the ignorant and at the same time be a voice for marginalised, misunderstood communities.

 

Making global impact in my child advocacy work relies on two things:

 

posting long authentic posts like this online to position myself as me! I’m also an author so I like words! Those who are curious to work with me will keep reading and connect with me and those who aren’t will scroll on by!

 

continuing to build solid relationships with my clients offline through interactive fun play based coaching usually in nature with not a device in sight!

 

This is me depending on how you see things!
