Learning to become a life coach for children is never a quick fix
Recently, I have noticed that a lot of people feel impatient. They want to help children. They want to do their best for children. They want to learn how to coach children BUT they want to do it quickly!
In the past (I have been training people since 2009), this wasn't the case. I just feel that the media is pushing their agenda of declining mental wellbeing in children and people (perhaps you?) are feeling desperate to be part of the solution and help.
I am here to tell you that if you want to help and do be part of the solution there is only one way to do it.
PROPERLY!
Anybody who knows me as the founder of Kids Life Studio® Global and who has done our Kids Life Coach Certification training knows this about me....
- I don't do short cuts.
- I don't believe in short cuts.
- I don't do a half job.
When it comes to coaching children, you cannot learn to do that in a weekend or a short online course that takes a few hours and doesn't have rigorous training and a sustainable approach. Even our premium fast track training course takes a minimum of 6 months to complete! We consider that fast in the greater scheme of things...
That being said, this also depends fully on your background. If like me, you already have a foundation in place of three degrees (Teaching, Counselling and Masters in Clinical Child Psychology) the journey may be quicker but you still need to build that solid foundation and this takes time and effort.
I also need to speak about the elephant in the room here! What about all these solopreneurs Kids Life Coaches online? Building their following, posting videos, educating parents and coaching children ONLINE? Is this kids life coaching or is this a vanity project? I get confused these days?
Since when did convenience become more important than doing what is right for children? I suppose that is where I am lagging in this whole social media driven and online world. Those who speak loudest get the most attention and I obviously haven't been speaking loud enough?
So here goes...raising my pitch of voice slightly LOL....This is what I think builds a well trained kids life coach:
1. Quality of training matters, but it's not the training that matters most. It is the quality of the mentorship and support. Doing it alone can be a slippery slope because you get tunnel vision. Doing it with a mentor raises the bar!
2. Overnight success cannot be expected when there are so many nuts and bolts to put into place. Strategically working through the steps and building a solid foundation is what matters.
3. Attitude is so important when it comes to learning. When you rush through things only to get to the other side feeling unprepared, is totally counterproductive. Being committed to putting in the time and staying on track is about holding yourself accountable for quality learning.
4. Willingness to be flexible. This means taking all previous learnings, courses, Academic hats and putting them aside so that you can totally immerse yourself in creating a new pathway for seeing children and understanding the TRUE psychology of childhood. (Spoiler alert if you have done our Kids Life Coach certification, you would already know this: Children have Intuitive Resilience® that is expressed best through play!)
5. Unconditional acceptance that learning is not linear and that your pathway may look different to the next persons. Some people learn fast, some like to take it slower. A good training company will honour your learning style, but will also push you out of your comfort zone!
Learning to become a kids life coach is never a quick fix! These 5 points are merely the tip of the ice berg!
